Hello Lovelies! When I shared this on Instagram, I said that this was a lot easier than I thought and I truly mean it. Though I haven't got process pictures for today's make, I will highlight key steps so you can give this a try.
I've seen a few creators do this "blackout" technique using embossing folders and I headed over to Sandi MacIver's blog and YouTube for a walkthrough. Her steps helped me figure out how to achieve this look! If you have not already got your hands on the Brilliant Poinsettias Embossing Folder from the Sweet Wishes release, this is your sign to snag it!
Time for Key Supplies!
I am using Pawsitively Saturated Inks for this card, but any water-based inks should produce similar effects, so check your stash and then get only what you need.

BRILLIANT POINSETTIAS CHRISTMAS CARD - Dry Embossing, Ink-blending, Blackout Inking
Card Size: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
COLOR PALETTE
Pawsitively Saturated Ink Pads - Apple, Cranberry, Zest, Limelicious, Fawn
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
INK-BLENDING
Emboss white cardstock with the Brilliant Poinsettias Folder and position the debossed (sunken in) side up/facing you on your Sticky Mat.
Use a Detail Round Blending Brushes to add Zest to the center and a Small Blending Brush to add a little Fawn, lightly to parts of the petals of the poinsettia.
Use the corner of the Limelicious pad or cube to add a few little streaks of Limelicious at random places on the poinsettias.
BLACKOUT INKING
Dip a firm chunk of foam into the Cranberry Ink pad and pick up some ink. Gently wipe this arcoss the poinsettia petals to color the "spines" of each petal.
Now take the Apple ink pad and gently wipe it across the entire front of the debossed design. The aim is to color all the raised areas with this color, some will seem into the sunken areas of the petals but this will only enhance them.
TIP: If you are not feeling confident about using the softer foam pad of the Apple Pawsitively Saturated Ink for this, try the firm pad of a Barn Door Distress Ink Cube.
DIE-CUTTING
Die-cut the Holiday Greenery accents and sentiment using Matte Gold Cardstock.
Die-cut the sentiment outline out of white cardstock ink-blended with Apple or Barn Door Ink.
Layer and adhere the die-cuts using Craft Glue.
Trim the poinsetting background to 4" x 5 1/4", apply foam tape and adhere to a white card base.
Add Gold Gems to embellish.
Sometimes I sketch and plan out my cards but this one came together effortlessly and surprised me so much!
I hope you'll make this. You won't be disappointed.
