Simon Says Stamp - Cozy Hugs Blog Hop

Hi Lovelies!

Welcome to Simon Says Stamp's Cozy Hugs Release Blog Hop! Apparently things at The PaperMint have gone to the birds, but in a really good way!

I decided to use ink blending to "paint" my die-cuts and create a little scene. A couple types of blending brushes and oodles of Pawsitively Saturated in came in super handy to pull this off. I hope you like the result and encouragement to visit the Simon Says Stamp Release Gallery to check out other Cozy Hugs projects!

Let's review the key supplies for today's card from the Cozy Hugs Release:

MAY YOUR HOLIDAY... CARD - Dry Embossing, Die-cutting and Detailed Ink-blending

A2 Card Base: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

Featuring:

DRY EMBOSSING

Place in 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of watercolor cardstock into the Leafy Greens Embossing Folder and run through a die-cutting machine using the appropriate plate sandwich.

Repeat with the Friendly Birds Embossing Folder.

DIE-CUTTING

Using the Bird dies from the Friendly Birds Embossing Folder, cut out the pair of birds.

Die-cut the Scalloped Birdhouse pieces out of watercolor cardstock.

Tip: I laid them out with the sentiment strip, as I envisioned the completed card to get a sense of their relative proportions and whether it looked ok.

INK BLENDING

Leafy Green Background

Apply Celery Ink all over with Large Blending Brush; use Small Blending Brush to apply Fairway on selected stems and leaves.

Use Small Blending Brush to apply Sage on selected stems and leaves; use Detail Flat Blending Brush to apply Pine on selected stems and leaves

Use Detail Flat Blending Brush to apply Fairway on the remaining stems and leaves and then follow with touches of Limelicious applied with the Small Blending Brush to intensify the colors further.

Spritz several times with water using the Distress Sprayer to create a mottled effect as the water bleaches out the color.

Use the Small Blending Brush to apply Watermelon to the scalloped roof trim; use the Small Blending Brush to apply Cherry to the remaining birdhouse trim

Use the Large Blending Brush to apply Surf all over the birdhouse body; use the Large Blending Brush to apply Ocean to the top section of birdhouse body, creating an ombre effect.

Repeat water spritzing with these die-cuts and set aside to dry.

Use the Small Blending Brush to apply Latte all over the birds' bodies; add Peachy and then Grapefruit Iinks to the bird's belly and underside as shown below.

Finish the ink-blending on the birds with Watermelon on the belly, a little Cappuccino on the wings and Mocha on the beak and legs using with the Round or Detail Flat Blending Brushes.

ASSEMBLY

Apply foam tape to all the Birdhouse pieces and then layer as shown.

I was worried that the ink blending looked a bit patchy on the leaves before I spritzed, but I think that the water melted the rough spots and brought it all together!

Love how easy peasy the birdhouse is to assemble!

I used a black pigment pen to color in the bird's eyes.

Holiday sentiments give me the warm and cozies!

I though about filling in the hole in the birdhouse, but I liked the birds set agains the green background, so I decided to give them a "window at the back of the house as well!

A coordinating envelope and some gold Holiday Sparkle sequins finishes the card!

Last look!

Look at their cute little feet; you can actually have them grip a twig.
