Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2024 - Frightful Witch Stepper Card

Hello Lovelies! I have another colorful make for Tim Holtz and Sizzix's Halloween 2024 Release! This time instead of a colorful background, all the color is in the die-cuts.

I am still surprised by how much you can do with each of the Vault set! Today's interactive card focuses on the Wicked set for all the images and added the Gothic Portraits set for the sentiment.

Let's take a closer look at both of the sets. You can purchase them individually or get the whole bundle from Simon Says Stamp.

Before we get into the process, I also want to mention Distress Black Heavystock that I used for the card base. It is literally the blackest, most luxurious, inky cardstock which I have ever seen and makes the colorful die-cuts pop even more!

Click here to view the full supply list or check out the one linked in the gallery at the bottom of this post when you have finished exploring this project.

STEPPER CARD BASE

SCORING & CUTTING SIDE PANELS

  1. Trim Distress Black Heavystock to 7"x10".

  2. With a pencil, create a small mark at the 1 1/8", 2 1/4" and 6 1/8" to identify where the score lines will be drawn.

  3. Along the 10" side, with a pencil, lightly mark a vertical line ~ 1 1/4" from the left and right side to identify the side panels. NOTE: In the pic, I have only drawn the line from 1 1/8" to 6 1/8" area

  4. OPTIONAL: To clearly mark the score areas, draw horizontal lines from the small marks to the vertical lines

  5. Use the Tim Holtz Tonic Precision Trimmer to cut vertically from the 1 1/8" to the 6 1/8" lines. (Picture 3 and 4)

  6. Score along the horizontal lines at 1 1/8", 2 1/4" and 6 1/8" (Pictures 5, 6 and 7)

Overview

Detail

STEPPER CARD BASE - SCORING MIDDLE FOLD & ASSEMBLY

  1. I forgot to create this score marking the middle of the card after Step 6 above, so we need to do it now. At the 5" mark, score a line from the first cut line to the second cut line. (Pictures 2 and 3)

  2. Fold and burnish this new score line and all the other score lines to create the interactive fold. (Pictures 4, 5 and 6)

DIE-CUTTING THE SIDE PANELS

  1. Postion and adhere the star die-cut towards the top of a side panl and die-cut, through a machine with an 8" or great opening.

  2. Repeat for the other panel

FINISHED CARD BASE

CREATING THE SENTIMENTS

  1. Ink-blend the following colors onto a piece of white cardstock at least 2 1/2" x 5":

    1. Fossilized Amber

    2. Picked Raspberry

    3. Crackling Campfire

    4. Wilted Violet

  2. Die-cut with the Fright die from the Gothic Portraits set.

  3. Drag a Milled Lavender Distress Ink Pad across a piece of white cardstock to color and let dry.

  4. Stamp (in Intense Black) and emboss (with Clear Powder) the "IN THE DEAD OF THE NIGHT" sentiment from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Tiny Text Halloween Set

  5. Trim using a Tim Holtz Tonic Mini Trimmer Guillotine

CREATING THE DIE-CUTS

CUSTOM DISTRESS CARDSTOCK

  1. Trim 8 pieces of white cardstock to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". (you will have some excess after die-cutting)

  2. Drag an Ink Pad across a piece of white cardstock to color.

  3. Repeat for each color and set aside to dry.

DIE-CUTS

  1. Die-cut each piece out of the colors outlined below. (I tried to capture each cut, but I didn't and this and the finished card helps illustrate all the color selections)

Color/Cardstock

Die

Black Heavystock

Witch, Moon (base layer), Cats (x2 base layers)

Fossilized Amber

Broom, Pumpkin Stems, Moon

Crackling Campfire

Pumpkin, Cat (reversed), Broom

Lumberjack Plaid

Rat

Milled Lavender

Small skinny Bottle Base, Cat, Large bottle label, Rounded Bottle Base

Seedless Preserves

Bats, Small skinny Bottle Label, Rounded Bottle Top Layer

Villainous Potion

Bat, Rounded Bottle Label

NOTE: You can use some of the extra die-cuts pictured (2nd crow and the hat) to decorate the inside of the card)

  1. Trim the yellow base of the broom so that it can be layered on top of the orange broom adhere with craft glue.

  1. Use the black witch die-cut to create a hat and boots layer to adhere with craft glue on top of the Wilted Violet layer as shown below.

Assemble the bottles from the pieces below.

ASSEMBLED DIE-CUTS

  1. Use the below to guide the creation of the assembled die-cuts. The assembled cats are not pictured. NOTE: Use the black cats shown as a base layer to the Milled Lavender and Crackling Campfire top layers for the cats.

  2. Adhere any layers with Craft Glue.

ASSEMBLED DIE-CUTS - CLOSE-UPS

  1. Use a small blending brush to deepen and created slightly shaded areas on each die-cut.

COLLAGING THE DIE-CUTS

TESTING THE LAYOUT

TIP: When creating a collaged scene, it can be helpful to test out placement to ensure everything fits and the scene comes together in the way that you prefer.

RECREATING LAYOUT WITH FINISHED DIE-CUTS

  1. Secure card base to craft surface.

  2. Place each die-cut as shown below.

ADHERING THE DIE-CUTS

  1. Cover the layout with Glad Press 'N Seal, pressing down to ensure that each die-cut adheres to the film.

  2. Remove the film from the card base, flip over and apply Craft Glue to each die-cut and let sit for about 20 - 30 seconds to let some of the moisture evaporate.

  3. Flip back over and carefully position above card base until you are satisfied with the alignment before pressing down to adhere.

  4. Gently peel back the Glad Press 'N Seal film.

ADDING UNDERLAY BENEATH THE DIE-CUT SIDE PANELS & SMALL SENTIMENTS

  1. Trim two pieces of Fossilized Amber Cardstock to 1 1/8" x 3 3/4".

  2. Adhere on the inside of the card under the side panels to let the star cut-outs have some contrast.

  3. Use extra die-cuts to decorate the inside of the card

  4. Pop up the small die-cuts with Thin Foam Dots and adhere to the Card Front.

These colors are full of Halloween magic!

The ombre sentiment pulls ALL the key colors together!

This witch is on her way to get up to something frightfully fun!

I love the dimension that a Stepper Card creates!
